So, Selam has been in the U.S. nearly 3 years and her English has tremendously improved. But ... occasionally, I am reminded how easy it is for her to get confused. Case in point, our texting conversation this afternoon, about her graduation this evening...
Me: Can I do your make up for tonight?
S: No!!!
Me: Why not? Never mind, I was just trying to be nice.
S: That is not nice at all!!!
Me: Why is it not nice to help you do your make up?
S: Make up I am sorry. I thought you meant make out with dad. yes you can do my make up.
Me: Goof.
S: I'm sorry that I thought you meant that.
Me: Its okay. Funny though. So I can't kiss dad?
S: Not on my graduation.

ReplyDeleteWatch out--she does understand "make out." High school and make out--hmmm, brings back memories! Of course, that was 45 years ago which would also gross her out--lol :-)
