About Me

Hello!  My name is Cat. I'm a working mom of six who loves to run.  "If This is Crazy" is my personal blog, my "place" - a chance to talk about topics that are important to me, namely health & fitness and family.

I am 31 years old and have been married to the love of my life, Mark, for over ten years. Together, we are the lucky parents of six children - two biological daughters, two daughters and one son from Ethiopia and, our most recent addition, a son from Colombia!  Rounding out our happy home are two crazy dogs and a cat.  It's a tight fit, but we like it that way.

I write about running, reading, adoption, parenting and marriage, and, occasionally, other random topics I find interesting, but don't fit into one of those categories. By sharing what has and has not worked for me, I hope provide some useful tips and tricks that the average person could use to create a healthier, happier family ... and you!

In February 2011, I had reached my highest weight ever - even more than I weighed while I was 9 months pregnant with my girls! I was heavy and awkward and... sad. I had no confidence, no energy, and little joy. Finally, enough was enough. There was no magic pill, no secret recipe. Just consistently better choices.  Over approximately one year, I managed to lose 50 pounds!  I have kept off the weight and started running more. In the Fall of 2012, I ran my first marathon!  What an amazing experience. I still have a long way to travel on this healthy-living road, but I have learned to take it one day at a time, and enjoy the journey.

If I had a nickle for every time someone told me how crazy I am... I'd be rich!

"Run a marathon? You're crazy."
"Six kids? You're crazy."
"Balance work and family? You're crazy."
"Adopt? An older child? You're crazy."

I hope, by sharing my own story, others might consider things that are out of their comfort zone. It might be running a 5k, trying a new food, or even opening up to new ways to build a family.  Just because its crazy, doesn't mean it might not work!

I'll be the first to say my life isn't always easy, but, if this is crazy, sign me up!
