January Rewind and February Goals

Run Miles Ran: 57 miles

Bike Miles Rode: 17 miles

Rest Days Taken: too many ;)

Highest Run Mileage Week: 1/2-1/8: 17 miles

Highest Bike Mileage Week: 1/9-1/15: 10 miles

Long Runs Completed (7+ miles): 2

Books Read: January was a great reading month!  Enjoyed several non-fiction and fiction books:
  •   Unclutter Your Life in One Week! By Erin Doland (Very practical tips, easy/quick read)
  •  The Reason for God by Timothy Keller (listened to the audio book, read by author; very well done. Lots of common sense, practical answers to some of religions toughest questions. Highly recommend)
  •  Drowning Ruth by Christina Schwartz (Really enjoyed this almost-period piece set between 2 world wars. Touched on some very moving issues, especially related to adoption/blended families)
  •  Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers (This is an oldie, but a first-time read for me. Gobbled it up within days despite it's length.  Very poignant and, even though it's a love story, found myself applying those love-lessons to my kids (or needing to apply them...). Very timely in that regard).
Current Read(s):
  • Bart Yasso's story: My Life on the Run (I have been reading this on and off for a few weeks. I like how I can pick it up and enjoy a chapter here and there. Worth reading).
  •  Quitter by Jon Acuff (Just started but I enjoy Jon's blog quite a bit. Was on hold at the library but got tired of waiting, so picked it up on Amazon).
Current Guilty Pleasure:  Game of Thrones on HBO.  I'm starting the 5th book (I guess I should add that above too?) and finally getting to see the first HBO season. So far, very impressed with how it stays true to the story. Really enjoy much of the casting and the scenes from "the Wall" are pretty incredible.
Current Triumph:  Where I landed my January goals.  <<Insert happy face>>

Current Blessing:  My mom and her fiance made it safely back from Kenya after a wonderful trip. :) Glad to have them back on U.S. soil and so happy to know how deeply the experience impacted them. Can't wait to hear more about it next weekend. :)
Current Excitement:  Planning our 10 year wedding anniversary trip this summer!
Current Goals (February):
  • Lose 4 lbs.
  • STOP DRINKING POP
  • Re-evaluate 25k Riverbank Run Training and then STICK.TO.THE.PLAN. (likely to include 4 long runs, running 4 days/week and at least 1 day with cross training)
  • Be able to do 30 consecutive push-ups by month-end (achievable by regular strength training)
  • Complete at least 3 books (at least one non-fiction)
  • Take the stairs at work (full 11 flights) 2x per week; and at least 4 flights 2 more times.

Longer-Term, Less Concrete Goals/Areas of Focus:

  • Be selective with "yes" and somewhat selfish with time - evaluate whether a given project, activity or other duty has a positive effect on our family and can reasonably fit in our lives right now.
  • Reevaluate the budget and get back to actually following it...
  • Continue to declutter the house.  Slowly but surely fill up that trash can each week.
  • Work with the kids on goal-setting.
