This was another idea I got from this book. Lucky for us, we already had 2 sets of fraction manipulatives similar to this. This exercise was simple, but effective. We put slips of paper in a bowl that had various fractions (1/6, 3/5, 8/12, etc) printed on them. The girls would draw a slip and have to use their fraction manipulatives to show me that fraction. Then, I asked them to see if they could find any equivalent fractions (See Selam above, testing out to see if she had a match, and Grace below counting out all the equivalents to 6/12...). It was a fun, visual way to look at fractions and also get a basic idea as to how fractions can be reduced.
